For 50 years we’ve been standing together for woods, trees and wildlife.

We've come a long way in 50 years. It all started with one small wood in Devon, and we've grown and flourished to become the UK's largest woodland conservation charity.

We're currently in the grip of a climate and nature crisis and the need for woods and trees grows more urgent by the day. With your donation, we can continue to stand up for woods and trees, taking our work to the next level.

We've achieved so much over five decades yet our fight to protect woods and trees is more crucial than ever.

Ancient woods threatened by development right now.

1/3

One third of all woodland wildlife species are in decline.

2.4%

That's how little of the UK is covered by ancient woodland.

Time is running out for the planet.

We’re no longer just facing a nature and climate crisis.

We’re in it.

Our urgent 50th Birthday Appeal is fighting for a new future.

We have a plan.

Now we need your support.

You can help get another hundred million trees in the ground.

You can help save ancient woodland.

You can help us give nature a chance by restoring UK woods.

And you can help inspire a new generation of supporters.

There is still hope.

Together, we can make our 50th birthday year a real celebration.

Please donate today.

Thank you.

As patron of the Woodland Trust, I’m incredibly proud to have played even a small part in its work. The Trust has achieved so much during the past 50 years - from a small wood in Devon, to thousands of hectares of life-giving woodland across the UK. But we’re not stopping there. The world is in the grip of a climate and nature crisis and the woods, trees and wildlife we’ve always championed now need our help more than ever before. There’s important work to be done and so I’m asking if you’ll stand with us and help, by donating to our very urgent 50th Birthday Appeal. Thank you.

Boosting biodiversity

We'll work tirelessly to revive and protect rare habitats like our Langley Vale site in Surrey which is now a haven for birds and butterflies. We have maintained chalkland and have sown plants that encourage the small blue butterfly and other rare chalk specialists.

Bringing species back from the brink

We’ll continue to work with partners to reintroduce species such as the pine marten - once one of our most common carnivores - into ancient woods. These days their numbers are pitifully low, but thanks to passion and expertise they’re beginning to come back from the brink.

Inspiring a love for nature

We're bringing the magic of the majestic Loch Arkaig ospreys into people's homes each summer with our nest cam. It reveals precious insights about life on the nest against the backdrop of the rare Caledonian pinewood that we are nurturing back to health.

Saving precious habitat

We'll safeguard woodland across the UK by bringing it into our care. Your support is vital to save woods for future generations, protecting the wildlife that calls them home and restoring them to their thriving best.

Getting a new generation on board

Thousands of young people come along to our community planting days to show a commitment to a greener world. This passion is especially evident at the nation's only Young People's Forest in Derbyshire. Children, young people and the local community have come together to shape the wood’s future. And we want to continue creating woods like these.

Our army of magnificent supporters have so far been with us every step of the way helping us make a difference. We’re in this together and we need your support again now to take the fight to a level we could never have imagined 50 years ago.
