The long-forgotten ancient woodland at Brynau Farm is now being transformed into a thriving sanctuary for wildlife, but we still need your help. An exciting opportunity has arisen to more than double the size of this incredible site by acquiring Cefn Morfudd.

With breathtaking views over Swansea’s famous bay, this wild upland bordering Brynau Farm has the potential to become a haven for people and nature.

Our vision for the future

By taking on Cefn Morfudd, we could enrich a vast mosaic of habitats, from colourful wildflower meadows to heathland carpeted in heather and gorse. This lush landscape would link together fragmented ancient woodland and provide resilient homes for threatened native species including curlew, marsh fritillary butterflies and merlin.

What's more, Brynau Farm and Cefn Morfudd are in easy reach of 530,000 people. This means we have the opportunity to connect much of the Welsh population (18% in fact) with nature and create a green oasis above Neath's urban sprawl.

Enhancing lives and landscapes

By carefully restoring peatland, heathland and pockets of ancient woodland, we’ll fight the effects of climate change, purify the air and ease flooding in the town below.

In the upland plateau, conservation grazing from Welsh white cattle will encourage natural regeneration. Meanwhile, our volunteers will remove invasive plants such as rhododendron to allow rare and delicate ground flora to flourish.

The busy town of Neath is just 2 miles away, with the historic woods and waterfalls of Gnoll Country park as a gateway. On countryside rambles, local people can unlock the health benefits of nature and discover fascinating historic relics. These include castle ruins and medieval bee gardens, where monks from Neath Abbey once kept hives to harvest heather honey.
